GOOD TO KNOW

A clearer way to practise.

How is my typing speed calculated?

One standard word is five Unicode code points, including spaces. Net WPM adjusts for edit-distance errors. Scores use actual elapsed time. Read the full scoring method.

Can I practise Hindi typing here?

Yes. Choose Hindi and enable a Unicode Hindi input method on your device. This site does not emulate legacy fonts or examination-specific keyboards.

Are these official exam tests?

No. These are independent practice sessions with editable durations and targets. Official evaluation can differ; check the relevant notification.

Free typing practice with a specific purpose

Use this page when you want to configure your own passage session rather than begin with an examination label. Choose English or Hindi, decide how long to practise and set a personal target. The target is a reminder of your intention; the reference text and your completed attempt determine the feedback. You can finish early, but the elapsed duration will then differ from a full-length attempt.

The most useful question is often narrower than “How fast can I type?” You might want to find out whether punctuation slows you down, whether a different keyboard feels comfortable or whether you can sustain a movement change through fresh text. Choose settings that help investigate that question. Avoid changing several variables between two comparison attempts unless you record what changed.

An original paragraph for an untimed accuracy drill

Copy the following example in a separate editor if you want to practise before using the scored passage above. The morning workshop began with a short exercise. Each participant received a different paragraph and a blank sheet for notes. The instructor asked everyone to work carefully rather than race through the opening sentence. After the exercise, the group compared the types of mistakes they had noticed. Some learners missed spaces, while others paused at capital letters or unfamiliar endings. They chose one small improvement for the next attempt. The purpose of the workshop was to make practice easier to understand, so that every learner could leave with a realistic plan instead of an unexplained number.

For the first copy, concentrate on the sentence endings. For the next copy, use a different paragraph containing similar punctuation. This checks whether the movement transfers beyond the example. Do not paste the text into the scored field: paste is disabled because that field is intended for your own typing input.

Make a comparison sheet that you will actually use

Record the selected duration, language, input method and backspace setting. After the result, add one sentence describing the most useful observation. For example, “I stayed accurate until I started guessing the final letters of long words.” The observation should lead to a next action, such as reading the whole word before entering it.

Keep the result download if you need a separate record. Browser history is convenient, but it can disappear when site data is cleared. It also belongs to the browser profile, so it is not a synchronised account. Use My progress for the saved passage attempts available on this device.

Questions about choosing practice settings

Should I always use the longest duration? No. A short drill is useful for testing a small movement change; a longer attempt is useful for sustained attention. Select the duration deliberately.

Should I disable corrections? Use the setting that matches your learning question, and record it. It does not establish official examination rules.

Why does Hindi feel different? The input method and Unicode composition affect the experience. Use the Hindi setup guide, then read the scoring explanation before comparing numbers across languages.

Use the result to choose the next exercise

If the comparison marks the ending of a word in red, finish the test and select Practise these mistakes. The next drill contains words from that completed attempt, rather than a random replacement list. For example, typing “gardem” against “garden” makes “garden” a useful drill word. After completing that short drill, return to Fresh passages to check the same movement in unfamiliar sentences. A memorised word drill is a different task from a full passage, so its WPM should not be treated as a new overall typing level.

Bring a paragraph without uploading it

Open Choose practice type, select My own paragraph, and put 20–5,000 characters in the setup box. Select Use this paragraph before entering the answer. Line breaks become spaces so that the reference is one continuous copying exercise. The answer box still blocks paste. Try this original setup text: A visitor left a green folder beside the reading desk. The assistant checked the label, noted the time, and placed the folder on the collection shelf. At noon, the visitor returned with a matching receipt.

Read the finish message before comparing scores

A session ends when you finish it, the timer expires, or you reach the end of the supplied text. The result uses the time actually spent typing. The site does not extend a short custom paragraph by repeating it. The Print / Save as PDF button opens your browser’s print dialog for a personal report; it does not issue a qualification. For general finger movement and reading drills, use the typing practice handbook.
